Tangled

There's barely enough room to swing a cat when this place is full, but even when you take the name at face value, Tangled rarely fails to impress.

As it's one of Manchester's finests gigs, you can be sure that the crowd will contain plenty of weekenders who've made their way down for the night.

It's one of the city's most enduring gigs because it offers value for money - which might be what you need after that over-priced New Year gig. The atmosphere here is legendary because everyone in the place seems dedicated to having a night to remember. There's no dress code, but no sign of the pretentiousness that often accompanies the fashion police, either.

The residents on rotation are Phil Morse, Terry Pointon, Herbie Saccani and Steve Thorpe. The tempo is always high, from the deep epic tracks to the dancefloor-fillers that have everyone reaching for the rafters as soon as the crescendo beats come crashing in.

In a city that's awash with nocturnal distractions, Tangled serves up no-nonsence deep house for half the price you'll pay in London.

What is the music policy of Tangled?

Progressive and breakbeat.

Which DJs always bring the house down?

The residents. Tangled does have occasional guests and gave a UK debut to Joshua Ryan earlier this year, but the real stars are Phil Morse, Terry Pointon, Herbie Saccani and Steve Thorpe.
