Fresh Talent for Tangled

LIKE most things, getting a DJ slot can often be as much about who you're mates with as it is your actual skills as a spinner.

One option for budding DJs is to start their own event, but this requires a serious amount of capital and the ability to find a needle in a haystack, i.e. locating the right venue.

Another option is to polish those mixing skills at home and send off that perfected mix CD to respected promoters. This requires the crossing of all limbs and hoping for the best.

Instead of using the CDs they receive as coasters or frisbees, Tangled are offering an open ear and a platform to their loyal punters and DJ hopefuls.

For the premiere instalment of this quarterly venture, the Tangled faithful will have to head further along Oxford Road to the pint-sized Attic.

This small, atmosphere-laden venue is set to shake to a quadruplet of fresh DJs who together represent the musical scope of Tangled 's main room.

Fittingly, Tangled Talent is a joint venture with the youthful Rise In collective, a Manchester-based outfit conceived in 2001 specifically to promote local DJs.

The icing on the cake for the DJ who performs best on the night will be a forthcoming slot in the main room at Tangled at the Phoenix on Saturdays
